Thank you for taking part in this conversation about the future of our electric cooperative, Empire Electric Association, and for making your voice heard in this election.
I’m Jeff Busic. As a father and orchard owner here in Montezuma County, I know how important energy is to our livelihoods and our economy.
For decades, I worked to help businesses make sense of changing markets. I retired as Vice President of Global Sales, managing staff and projects in over 70 countries for the beloved Colorado outdoor company Osprey. Success required me to put consumers’ needs and feedback into the heart of our operations, lead teams with performance-based outcomes and accountability, and make smart choices with multimillion-dollar budgets.
Every American business entrepreneur knows that energy technologies are always improving - and that our nation needs to remain on the forefront of energy leadership and innovation. Here at Empire Electric, we’re fortunate to have an excellent local electric co-op with a 99%+ reliability rating and rates lower than many other parts of the country. It’s up to our next Board of Directors to carry that legacy forward by helping you - our neighbors and members - access a new generation of win-win technologies that strengthen Empire’s balance sheet and bring savings to your monthly bill.

PRIORITIES
Reliability
I know the most important thing about our electricity is for it to be there when we need it most. It’s time for Empire Electric to refresh a Strategic Plan that assesses the risks in the coming years and listens to its members’ needs to ensure our electricity is reliable for a generation to come.
Affordability
Everything is getting more expensive these days, which makes keeping our energy bills down all the more important for Empire families. We need to seek out the most affordable electricity sources as technologies evolve and advanced sources become cheaper. We can also make electricity more affordable by helping consumers manage and save their energy use with smarter appliances and tools.
Win-Win Options
The biggest tech breakthroughs of recent years have come with more efficient and smarter home appliances like electric cooking, electric heating and cooling, and smart apps for energy use management. These options aren’t just great for giving members new ways to save - they create new revenue for Empire Electric that we can reinvest in reliability, great customer service, and resiliency.
HOW TO VOTE
Empire Electric members will receive ballots in the mail starting mid-May and must be returned and received by no later than 5 PM on Friday, June 13. You can also vote at the Annual Meeting on June 19!
If you receive a bill from Empire you can vote in this election! Please encourage friends and family to be on the lookout for their ballots!
